Current clinical practice guidelines recommend specific non-pharmacological therapies as front-line treatments ahead of pharmacological treatment for the management of musculoskeletal pain but guidelines seldom help select the best treatment for a specific patient. Clinical decision-making processes, including patient sub-classification and identification of perpetuating factors, can provide DCs the knowledge to tailor individualized care that will improve patient outcomes.
